Overview

Mida Law respects your privacy. This policy describes, in general terms, how personal information is collected and handled in connection with this website, consistent with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).

Information we collect

When you contact the firm, we collect the information you choose to provide, typically your name, contact details, and the content of your message. We ask that you keep messages general until a conflicts check is complete, and that you do not send sensitive documents by email until we ask for them. Photo ID is the exception: you can provide it through our secure upload page or by emailing clear scans to admin@midalaw.ca.

How we use information

Information you provide is used to respond to you, to check for conflicts of interest, and, if the firm confirms it can act for you, to provide legal services. We do not sell personal information.

Email subscriptions

If you subscribe through the form on our Insights page, we collect your email address and a record of your consent: the date and time, the exact wording you agreed to, and limited technical information such as your IP address, kept solely as evidence of that consent. We use your email address only to send occasional legal-topic updates and articles from Mida Law. This is general information, not legal advice, and subscribing does not create a lawyer-client relationship. We do not sell or share your email address, and we do not add you to unrelated marketing. Your details are stored within our own website. You can unsubscribe, or ask us to correct or delete your information, at any time by contacting us using the details under “Access and questions” below.

Identification for consultation requests

When you request a consultation, we ask for a clear copy of a valid, current government-issued photo ID. You can provide it through our secure upload page, which encrypts images in your browser before they are sent, or by emailing clear scans to admin@midalaw.ca; ordinary email does not have that browser-side encryption. Only authorized firm personnel, including our clerk where appropriate, can access your ID.

What we collect. Your name, your email address, which consultation route you used, the ID images you provide, your consent and the time of upload. Your IP address is also used for security and rate limiting; it is held only in coded form, for a short time, and is not stored with your upload.

Why. To confirm who we are speaking with, to reduce mix-ups between people with similar names, to help screen for conflicts of interest and to help prevent fraud. Providing ID this way is not the formal identity verification the Law Society of Ontario may require if we later act for you on a matter involving funds.

Where it is kept. Your images are encrypted in your browser before they are sent and are stored only in encrypted form on our own website server in Toronto, Canada, outside the public website files. They are never attached to email and never sent to analytics tools.

Who can see it. Only authorized firm personnel, and each access is logged.

How long we keep it. If we decide not to proceed, the images are deleted within 7 days of that decision. If no decision is recorded, they are deleted within 30 days. If we act for you, the ID becomes part of your client file and is kept under the Law Society’s record-keeping rules, and the upload copy is then removed from the website.

Health cards and municipal ID cards are not accepted, and any we receive are deleted. To ask about, correct or withdraw an upload, contact us using the details under “Access and questions” below.

Consent

By contacting Mida Law you consent to the collection and use of the information you provide for the purposes described above. Contacting the firm does not create a solicitor-client relationship.

Storage and security

This website is served over HTTPS, so information you send through it is encrypted in transit. The website is hosted on managed servers located in Toronto, Canada. Email for the firm is provided through a third-party business email service, which may process or store messages on servers outside Canada. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to our firm; however, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

Analytics and cookies

This website uses Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, how visitors find and use the site, for example which pages are viewed and which search engines or websites refer visitors. Google Analytics is configured without advertising features or Google Signals, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses, and we do not use analytics data to identify individual visitors. Analytics cookies are set for this purpose, alongside cookies that are technically necessary for the website to function. The website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking tools. You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser. Our analytics tools never receive the contents of forms or uploads, including names, contact details, party names or identification.

Third parties

We use a small number of service providers to operate the website and communicate with people who contact us, currently our website hosting provider, our business email provider, and Google (Google Analytics, described above). These providers process information only as needed to deliver their services. We do not sell personal information.

Retention

Information is retained in accordance with Mida Law’s internal retention policies, applicable legal and professional obligations, and legitimate operational requirements.
